Baptism in Water

When we accept that Jesus Christ is our only savior, we are commanded to be baptised in water “for the remission of sin.” (Acts 2:38)
It is an act of repentance that has an effect of spiritual cleansing.

Spiritually, we are washed totally clean in the Lord Jesus’ precious atoning blood.

We are commanded in scripture to be baptised in Water

Matthew 28:19-20 — Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Acts 10:48 — And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

Baptism or Baptó [Strongs 907: βαπτίζω comes from Strongs 911: βάπτω] in Greek means to submerge, wash, make clean, and to dye, take on another colour.

We are said to be buried into His death, meaning that our old sinful nature dies, and we are thus raised to new life with Christ. It secures the complete washing away of our past, and then, by the raising up out of the water unto new life, our total commitment to believing on the Name of Jesus Christ and following Father God.

Baptism was both preached and practiced in the early church and it is commanded of us today as well.

To be baptised, it is required that you believe in your heart the scriptures concerning the Lord Jesus Christ; that He is your saviour.

The Lord Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist, and the events are described in the following scriptures.

Mathew 3:11-17
Mark 1:4-11
Luke 3:21-22
John 1:29-33

Baptism is an integral part of the Great Commission given to us by the Lord Jesus, who iterates that we should be baptised in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19-20 — Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Acts 8:36-37 — And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Acts 2:38 — Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Acts 10:48 — And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Mark 16:16 —  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Furthermore, John the Baptist reveals to us in Luke the promise of being filled with the Holy Spirit, which is the Christos Anointing — baptism in the Holy Spirit!

Luke 3:16-17 —  John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
